Gracious Spaces,
flowing together
Simply, the owners of this home needed more space. They needed to either expand, or move to a bigger house has their family grew. Any expansion of the home would have to compliment the character of the existing home and respect the scale of the neighborhood. As Ali Awad added space to their house, he was able to re-think how the family would move through their house. Thre project created a gracious series of spaces that flow together, in a fairly compact volume. Upstairs, a master suite, study, and a fourth bedroom were added. The main floor addition contains a new kitchen, family room and mudroom. The old kitchen space in the existing hourse was converted to a powder room and pantry storage.
Awad is particularly fond of the way daylight streams through the home's large South and East facing windows. "It is delightful to be in the house in the daytime," he says. "There is a strong visual connection to the backyard."
