
Left: Clerestory windows over the sleigh bed in the upper-level master bedroom can be cranked open to let in refreshing breezes. The angles on the adjacent wall echo the gabled roofline of the addition.
Below: All but invisible from the front of the house, the two-story addition on the back is a simple, cost-effective rectangle. The shed dormers, gable, and red-stained cedar shakes match the home's Dutch Colonial style and keep it from looking too much like a barn.
